BAKA BEYOND consists of eight musicians from the celtic fringe of Europe and the West coast of Africa - the original afro-celtic fusion band with a unique sound honed over the past twelve years. With its origins in bandleader Martin Cradick's jams with the Baka pygmies in the rain forests of South East Cameroon, the Baka Beyond sound has evolved into an exciting, eclectic blend of guitar, fiddle, drums, percussion and bass, topped off with stunning vocal arrangements rooted in the orignal sound of the Baka people. Their last Exeter visit was for the 2005 Respect Festival where they blew the roof off the marquee so book early and get ready to dance. Live support comes from MELOSA's seven-strong Latin-tinged ska fusion, with FSOE world DJs in all areas and DUB MAGNITUDE in the bar. THE HERBALISER
Exeter Phoenix, 8pm-1am, £10.50adv./£12door, tel - 01392 667080, www.wegottickets.com www.exetickets.com
Jake Wherry and Ollie Teeba have been working together for a decade creating the sonic force known as THE HERBALISER and changing the face of hip-hop in the process: "our instrumental style was born of a necessity to produce hip-hop music, but without access to rappers we had to develop a new approach." Their debut Ninja Tunes album 'Remedies' soon became a classic, with its mix of breaks, jazz sampledelica and funk, and they've maintained their tight quality control on the subsequent 'Blow Your Headphones', 'Very Mercenary', 'Something Wicked This Way Comes', 'Solid Steel Herbal Blend' and 'Take London' discs. Their innovative mixing and production skills have led to commissions as diverse as Guy Ritchie ('Snatch'), Playstation ('Tony Hawks Underground') and Motorola, but you'll get the chance to see them in their element: mashing up hip-hop, jazz, funk and breaks in a unique way which keeps pushing back those boundaries - simply because they can! DIGGA, LOCTITE, BOSTIN POWERS, MIKE JAMES, SPIDER and more will be spinnin' their funky stuff throughout the Phoenix keeping the Kuhl vibe in all areas! A Kuhlmusik and Future Sound of Exeter production. Sponsored by Starz Lounge and Cocktail Bar
