Sat 13 Dec 1997 (session 20): "Dead Cities in December darkness": a live remix of the Future Sound of London's Dead Cities album by DJs AMBIESSENCE and THE ICONOCLAST, plus samples byN-TROPIC and narration by JAMES TURNER , complete with visuals by NIGEL CODE.
Sat 22 Nov 1997 (session 19): "Double live delicacies": songs and sounds from BARE BONES (Paul Rowley - guitar/vocals, Bully - bass, Paul Whittall - computer/keyboards & Josh Rowley - guitar/effects) along with live grooveboxing by Torquay's TONGUE & GROOVE outfit.
Sat 25 Oct 1997 (Session 18): "Lost in space" …quasi-ambient space rock by SEMBALANCE plus dark and mysterious mixing by THE ICONOCLAST.
Thurs 16 Oct 1997: Exeter's Cavern Club...
A full-on full moon night with 2 live acts and 2 djs: Live: N-TROPIC - improvised space techno; TONGUE & GROOVE trip 'n' bass grooveboxing. DJs: DJ AMBIESSENCE - tribal trancecore, THE ICONOCLAST - rumbling psycho rhythms.
27 Sept 1997 (Session 17): "Ethno Ambience…" - treated accoustic guitar sets from JERRY CAHILL and DJ SCRUNCHER'S worldbeats.
19 July 1997 (session 16): Achtung! It was Krautrock time as DJ AMBIESSENCE and THE ICONOCLAST joined forces to mix famous German tunes, surrounding a special live set of super spacey sounds and extra-terrestrial samples by cosmic outfit MOOCH, represented on this occasion by Steve (Mooch) Palmer and Steve (N-Tropic) Clarke.
21 June 1997 (session 15): A celebration of the longest day featured JUICE (this time including dancer Ruth Way) and cerebral solstice mixing by DJ AMBIESSENCE.
24 May 1997 (session 14): In which DJ Turnbill-Crow became THE ICONOCLAST for two darkly ambient sets accompanying BIRDSONG REVOLUTION'S programmed delights, with super 8 films flickering atmospherically.
1 May 1997 (Election Night!): The Future Sound of Exeter at the Cavern Club: N-TROPIC; DJ AMBIESSENCE; MOOCH and more.
26 April 1997 (session 13): A "floating free-form workout" courtesy of DJ AMBIESSENCE (four deck mixing), JERRY CAHILL (guitar/effects), RICHIE COOKE (percussion) and DAVE SAWYER (sound sculptures), with live projections by CHRIS SAWYER.
15 April 1997: The St David's Ambience Society presented Rites of Passage at Exeter & Devon Arts Centre, free art funded by Exeter Arts Council. This consisted of projections of drawings by visual artist and Society member NIGEL CODE, along with live ambient four deck mixing by DJ AMBIESSENCE. Art events don't come much darker!
29 March 1997 (session 12): A "deadhead space jam for the nineties" as RIFIKI returned for two sets, surrounded by ambient mixing by DJ AMBIESSENCE who later sat in with them and STEVE CLARKE to take their Garcia-esque tunes into hyperspace.
22 February 1997 (session 11): Two sets by DJ SCRUNCHER allowed the leader of the Street Heat samba band to air large swathes of his extensive world music collection, along with an improvised set by N-TROPIC, this time featuring Manton on guitar and electronics.
12 February 1997: Future Sound of Exeter went wild at the Cavern Club: LAMENTIA; N-TROPIC; DJ AMBIESSENCE; and DJ PAULO
25 January 1997 (session 10): Dave Sawyer's "and friends" evolved into a band called JUICE, who performed their unique blend of improvised music, sound scuplture effects, singing and poetry - along with two eclectic sets of electronica by DJ TURNBILL-CROW.
